Jammie Thomas, the single mother who lost one of the few peer to peer copyright infringement cases to go to trial, has reportedly lost the re-trial too. The jury has apparently awarded nearly $2 million in damages against her, which given the jury award at the original trial was $222,000 will probably mean Ms Thomas is now regretting pushing for the retrial. That's $80,000 per song compared to the original $9,250 per song. It's a ridiculous award but it's one of those "sending a message" decisions and actually could have been as much as $150,000 per infringement under US copyright law.
